Dextrose monohydrate
Indications/Uses
Nutrient source, increase liver & heart muscle glycogen, hypoglycemia, cerebral edema, collapse osmotic diuretic.
Dosage/Direction for Use
As necessary or by physician's direction.
Contraindications
General hyperglycemia, diabetic insipidus, patient w/ glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome. Hyperhydration. Post-op impaired glucose utilization.
Special Precautions
Inj slowly to avoid local irritation & osmotic incretion. Concomitant use w/ carbohydrate in patients w/ lactate acidosis.
Adverse Reactions
Hyperglycemia, anuria, oliguria, circulatory collapse; thrombophlebitis (if the pH of soln is low); burn sensation, inj site infection, venous thrombotic or wide phlebitis from inj site, extravasation & hypervolemia.
Drug Interactions
May cause coagulation of RBC & hemolysis w/ blood transfusion.
